patrick melrose
Just before falling into a total despair that there won’t be any good movies in this world ever again, we had one of our best movie nights with the five episodes of “Patrick Melrose”. Based on the autobiographical story of Edward St Aubyn, this TV series is a symphony of talented acting, admirable directing and heartbreaking realism.
“Patrick Melrose” is an ugly story, beautifully told. Each frame and each word are not only joy for the eye and food for the mind, but also a soul drill. Should a person owns a soul at all, that is. For people like me (and for the character of the absurdly talented Benedict Cumberbatch), who were raised in toxic families and nursed with hate, abuse and fear, the experience of “Patrick Melrose” has even deeper, a bit different dimension which cannot be explained, just felt.
